Newport Restaurants Have the Freshest Fish!

Visitors and locals alike know that Newport has the freshest fish available anywhere, and we’ve put together a list of some local restaurants where you can find all of the delicacies that we harvest this season. Local restaurants offer a variety of locally sourced salmon, lingcod, rockfish, halibut, tuna, Dungeness crab, shrimp, clams, and oysters. You’ll have a lot of choices, but the variety of available seafood will often depend on how much was caught that day, and how much is left in stock when you get there.

Located in the Hallmark Resort, Georgie’s is perched atop the beach and offers diners a fantastic view of the Pacific Ocean below. This local favorite features perfectly prepared Northwest cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced salmon, halibut, oysters, Dungeness crab, clams, and tuna. Try their signature Diablo Seafood Pasta or the Blackened Ahi Tuna.

This local gem sits right at the edge of the Nye Beach Neighborhood and specializes in fresh Northwest fare, locally sourced daily from the sustainable purveyor Chelsea Rose.  Entrées include Wild Chinook Salmon, NW Halibut Fish and Chips, Dungeness crab and Newport Bay Shrimp macaroni and cheese, and the Fresh Catch of the Day. Try the Pacific Kitchen Tacos; these delicious blackened fish tacos are served with house slaw in a corn tortilla.

Overlooking the Yaquina Bay, Clearwater Restaurant provides top-notch coastal offerings from award-winning chefs with an amazing view to match. Their menu offers fresh halibut, salmon, and the always-popular Catch of the Day, and showcases a wide variety of Dungenous crab selections, from the whole crab to salads to Jan’s special dip. Try the hearty Coconut Curry Seafood Stew.

Ocean Bleu is both a seafood market and restaurant and serves up some of the freshest, locally sourced seafood on the Historic Bayfront.  They offer great seafood choices like fresh-caught salmon, Dungeness crab, halibut, and tuna, and their chowder is in a category all by itself. Try the Clam Chowder, a chock full of juicy clams with house-smoked bacon.

Situated just across from Oregon’s largest commercial fishing fleet in the Historic Bayfront, Local Ocean has been a favorite of both locals and visitors for nearly two decades. This employee-owned restaurant and fish market features a wide variety of locally sourced fish, oysters, crispy Dungeness crab cakes, and bounteous seafood stews. Try the Fishwives Stew, brimming with Dungeness crab, Oregon pink shrimp, wild prawns, scallops, clams, and rockfish, and cooked to perfection in wine, saffron, and garlic herb tomato broth.

The name says it all. Just 100 yards up from Nye Beach, the Chowder Bowl is a local legend. They have been proudly serving their milk-based, thick, and creamy chowder since 1980. Their New England-style clam chowder is so amazing that it has won awards and has been featured in local and national publications and media. Try the Slumgolian Chowder, creamy clam chowder, topped with Pacific shrimp.

Attached to a convenience store that is decorated with fish and a huge Dungeness crab, the South Beach Market serves up some of the best locally sourced seafood on the Oregon Coast. The owners have developed a close relationship with local fishermen, so they’re able to sell a large variety of the very freshest seafood. Try the Wild Halibut Fish & Chips or the Fresh Dungeness Crab Sandwich.

Although there are no shark items on the menu, all offerings are uniquely poached or fresh steamed. Sharks menu features a comprehensive assortment of fresh fish, oyster, clam, and seafood pasta options. Try the Cioppino, a hearty seafood stew simmered to perfection with Sharks’ famous Cioppino sauce.

Mo’s Seafood and Chowder                                                                                              It could be said that Mo’s is a Newport institution and for very good reason! You’ve probably heard of their world-famous clam chowder; it’s available at Mo’s locations up and down the Oregon Coast, at the Portland International Airport, and can even be shipped anywhere around the globe. Visit the original Mo’s on the Historic Bayfront, where the famous restaurant got its start more than seventy years ago. Try a cup or bowl of the amazing Clam Chowder that put Mo’s on the map.
