Wish Mom a Happy Mother’s Day with a Trip to Newport

Bring your mom to the beach this year for the best Mother’s Day ever! From scenic beach strolls and nature walks to self-guided tours and indoor adventures, Newport has some great ideas to spend quality time with that special mother in your life. We also have amazing brunch spots and unique shopping experiences that are sure to make mom feel special.

Enjoy miles of scenic beaches, perfect for strolling, beachcombing, kite flying, clamming, fat-tire bike riding, and surfing. Agate Beach, Nye Beach, and South Beach are all very accessible and stretch from one end of town to the other, creating unlimited possibilities to spend time with mom in the sand. And if you don’t want to go to the beach, we have some great spots just above the shore to sit and watch the waves roll in and out.

Take your mom to brunch or a spectacular dinner. A simple Google search will let you view some local Mother’s Day brunch menus and an assortment of great dinner options, where you’ll have access to the freshest seafood available anywhere. You may want to search for brunch and dinner options in advance and make reservations so that you can ensure you’ll have a place to dine.

How about a self-guided tour? Take Mom to see our two lighthouses; Yaquina Bay Lighthouse is the oldest in Oregon, and Yaquina Head Lighthouse is the tallest in the state and includes an interpretive center and a trail that will take you down to Cobble Beach to view seals, whales, sea birds and tide pools teeming with life. Drive from the Historic Bayfront along the scenic Yaquina River or cross the Yaquina Bay Bridge to explore South Beach.

Buy mom a fresh bouquet from the Newport Farmer’s Market while you browse through local produce and handmade items. Walk through Newport’s working Historic Bayfront, where beautiful murals cover the one-mile strip of canneries, fish markets, art galleries, gift shops, and various eateries that coexist amid the cries of seagulls, barking sea lions, and the savory scent of fresh cooked Dungeness crab. Or visit the Nye Beach Neighborhood, a quaint little shopping area just above the beach.

If the weather doesn’t cooperate, take Mom to the Oregon Coast Aquarium and the Hatfield Marine Science Center to see a variety of diverse sea life and learn about coastal ecosystems.  Visit Ripley’s Believe it or Not and the Wax Museum to check out all sorts of strange and amazing things. Book some time at Escape Room Newport to solve puzzles together and figure out how to get out of one of the themed rooms.

No matter how you choose to spend Mother’s Day in Newport, you’re sure to have a great time! The Newport Chamber of Commerce is always ready to welcome you to the beach! Visit newportchamber.org for a detailed calendar of events and a list of local businesses that will take care of every aspect of your stay.
