10th Annual Historic Nye Beach Mystery WeekendSaturday & Sunday, March 8 - 9, 2014

Visit Nye Beach for its Mystery Weekend! This Family Event begins Saturday morning when sleuths purchase mystery packets for $10 each.
Sleuths will visit participating business to collect clues and interrogate the suspects between 10am and 5pm, with solutions due by 5pm on Saturday, March 9, 2014.
The mystery is written by a local author, and as the information about the mystery, the starting location, the ending location, and other particulars are available, we will update this entry. Sleuths may choose to work alone, in pairs, or even groups to determine: Who committed the murder!
The murderer's motive (or motives); The chain of events that led to the murder; and the evidence that caused the sleuth(s) to reach a conclusion.

Annual Blessing of the FleetSat, March 15, 2014

Event Description: Since the 1950s Newport's Blessing of the Fleet has continued the custom of asking for prayers for protection at sea, bountiful catches, and peace of mind for the families at home.
The Blessing is open to any and all who wish to ask blessings on their fishing vessel, charter vessel, pleasure craft, or research vessel.
The challenging Survival Suit Races at the Newport Tradewinds dock below Mo's Annex. The actual blessing takes place at 1:00 PM on Yaquina Bay.
The day's events also include a Memorial Service at the Fishermen's Memorial Sanctuary at Yaquina Bay State Park. This service is meant to offer support and encouragement to the families and community while remembering Lincoln County fishermen lost at sea. Participants are encouraged to bring a flower to add to a communal bouquet in remembrance of their friend or loved one.
The parade will get underway at 12:45 PM, from the area near the Ports international terminal.
Anyone wishing to participate can pick up a vessel registration form at Schiewe Marine or Englund Marine Supply stores on Newport's Bayfront. All registrations need to be returned to Schiewes or Englunds by 11:00 AM, the morning of.
CHA's 2nd Annual Shamrock SupperSat, March 15, 2014

Event Description: Lovers of Irish food and culture will be in clover on Saturday, March 15, as the Celtic Heritage Alliance throws its second annual Shamrock Supper in Newport.
The supper will feature tasty traditional Irish fare, with corned beef and cabbage accompanied by Irish soda bread, boiled potatoes, parsley sauce, mashed carrots and parsnips; followed by a delectable bread pudding or apple crisp for dessert.
Between courses, Irish whiskey connoisseurs can enjoy five tastings of the Emerald Isle's finest amber nectar along with short educational vignettes about Irish heritage and culture, music and song presented by returning historian and musical guest, Frank Blair.

International Migratory Bird DaySat, May 10
Migrate to Lincoln County on International Migratory Bird Day May 10, 2014. The Central Coast is well known for exceptional birding from woodland to shore and marine birds. For a variety of bird species their migration ends here on the coast as they begin to establish nesting sites. For many others this is just a stopping point as the continue to trek north. Several Bird Walks are planned in the morning along the whole length of the county. Bird enthusiasts should then "migrate" to Newport, Oregon located in the center of the county to where a variety of activities, events and bird watching activities will be offered throughout the midday and afternoon. Guided bird activities will focus on beginner and intermediate birders, are family friendly, and a number of events will have Spanish Interpreters.
