Newport Symphony

Three Treats in Newport Symphony's 2015-2016 Season Opener

Sept 26
Org: Newport Symphony Orchestra
@ Newport Performing Arts Center
newportsymphony.org

Event Description The season's opener features the full symphony on stage at the Performing Arts Center under the baton of music director, Adam Flatt. It offers three distinct treats. The popular and lively Courtly Dances from Gloriana by Benjamin Britten commissioned for Queen Elizabeth II s coronation in 1953 hearken to the days of the earlier Queen Elizabeth.

Franz Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 87 in A Major was first popular in the 1780s and continues with praise today. Look for lively and zesty portion mixed with a beautiful adagio.

The third program offering is the Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar. Elgar sets forth musical portraits of some persons in his life, including his wife, an amateur viola player, an organist, and himself. Perhaps the enigma is a hidden melody that awaits your discovery during the performance.

Enjoy this performance with the amazing concert hall sound of the Performing Arts Center in Newport. Reserve your seat now for best selection. Some seating is available at the door, too.
