Event Description Under the baton of music director Adam Flatt, the full 60 piece Newport Symphony Orchestra will perform for your enjoyment a range of music. Maurice Ravel s Concerto in G Major has been described as astonished and captivating with bits of jazz and Basque/Spanish themes. Await the dazzling speed required by our guest pianist Monica Ohuchi. Claude Debussy, with orchestration by Maurice Ravel, composed Danse, a lively Italian folk dance that you will find brings out the best in Debussy s vibrant, rhythmic work. In a turnaround, the Two Gymnopedies was composed by Erik Satie and this time orchestrated by Claude Debussy. It is noted for unusual harmonic progressions. Named for an ancient Spartan festival honoring the gods, these short, ethereal pieces were originally written for piano. Dmitri Shostakovich s Symphony No. 9 was intended to an epic affair to celebrate Russia s wartime victory. Instead it was right-sized for our finale of the season with thrilling, brilliant and frenzied final measures.

Enjoy this performance with the amazing concert hall sound of the Performing Arts Center in Newport. Reserve your seat now for best selection. Some seating is available at the door, too. Casual dress often seen.
