Newport has plenty of great local java
We take our coffee pretty seriously in Newport! Whether you’re waking up or just need a little pep in your day, you’ll find the perfect spot for coffee at the beach. With a variety of shops that specialize in great coffee, you can stop in for a cup or two, or grab your coffee to go. Here are some terrific local spots to order your favorite coffee drink.
Come for the Stumptown Coffee, stay for the awesome food menu! As well as serving some of the best espresso drinks around, Carl’s Coffee in Nye Beach serves 100% fruit smoothies, hot chocolate, hot or iced teas, and Italian sodas. With fresh pastries from Le Maison (we’ll visit them in a minute), hearty breakfast scrambles, fresh quiche made daily, and their signature Cuban sandwich, the food at Carl’s is also top-notch. Carl’s has recently expanded their space to include a convenience store and a larger restaurant that will soon offer more menu items.
715 NW Beach Dr., Nye Beach
Grab some hearty and healthy food and espresso drinks from this locally owned drive-thru café if you’re on the go! Their menu is designed to provide coffee and a bite to eat for you to take to the beach, the park, or even enjoy in the car or on their patio! They specialize in Longbottom and Cape Foulweather coffee drinks, like their golden latte and their espresso shakes made with real ice cream. And they offer a variety of regular and gluten-free pastries, loaded bagels, breakfast sandwiches and burritos, and several kinds of wraps. Ultralife Café perfectly combines rapid service with healthy choices!
121 NE 15th St., Uptown
Stop in for coffee or an espresso drink and fuel up with a freshly baked bite to eat. Also in Nye Beach, Panini Bakery will wake you up in the morning and regenerate you in the middle of your adventures! In addition to great coffee and espresso drinks, Panini specializes in fresh baked pastries, breads and other baked goods (the bread is so good that it is featured on the menus of other local restaurants). Panini also has a variety of sandwiches and pizza options for lunch and dinner.
232 NW Coast St., Nye Beach
This shop roasts their own beans with love! If you crave 100% organic, 100% fair trade eco-friendly coffee, Surf Town has the cup of joe just for you. With names like Shortboard Light (American Roast), Deadliest Dark (XX French Roast), Stay Positive (Italian Roast), and Longboard Dark (French Roast), their passion is delivering a wonderful cup of coffee every time you visit. They also serve ice cream, offer bulk bean orders online, and even provide the daily surfing report for the area.
345 SW Bay Blvd., Historic Bayfront
Café Mundo’s extensive espresso menu is sure to give you the boost you’re looking for! Specializing in fair trade, organic, Peruvian coffee, they have two micro-batch varieties available: House Roast (medium) and Devil’s Churn (dark). You’ll love their smooth, full-flavored coffees that have been carefully roasted to bring out the complex aroma that’s hidden inside. Café Mundo also offers unique “World Beat Cuisine” right here in Nye Beach.
209 NW Coast St., Nye Beach
Located amidst the hustle and bustle of the Historic Bayfront, the Coffee House (the building) was actually floated down the Yaquina River from the town of Yaquina in 1932, and rolled on logs to its present site! The coffee house serves superb drip coffee, and has a gourmet breakfast and lunch menu featuring their legendary biscuits and gravy, and amazing “Pasties.” Their traditional Cornish Pasties are made with turnip, carrot, onion, potato, and herbs, and can include premium Angus beef if you’d like.
156 SW Bay Blvd., Historic Bayfront
French for “the house” or “home,” La Maison specializes in pastries and cakes that are a perfect complement to your morning or afternoon coffee. Their huge espresso drinks are just what you need to get you going! In addition, La Maison has an incredible French-inspired breakfast and lunch menu that features omelets, crepes, sandwiches, soups, and salads. They also recently began serving dinner on Friday evenings from 5-8:30 pm, and reservations are accepted but not required.
315 SW 9th St., Downtown Deco District
Drive in for coffee and a bite to eat! Coasties Roasties is locally owned, and serves drinks sourced regionally. Get a steaming cup of coffee from Columbia Coffee Roasters or delicious chai tea blended in Eugene, and check out their daily menu for fresh pastries, scones, muffins, breakfast burritos, wraps, soups and sandwiches. Coasties Roasties tries to include one vegan or gluten item on the menu daily, and they even make their own salted caramel and dog treats.
