Here are some ideas of how to maximize your visit to Newport; follow the itinerary faithfully, or simply pick and choose the suggestions that you find most interesting and inviting.

A Trip with Your Family

Newport is the perfect place to spend time with your family! With all of the great restaurants, kid-centered activities and miles of sandy beaches, we’ve got something for everyone.

9:00 am: Breakfast, Newport Café ● Pancakes, bacon, biscuits and gravy, omelets, bottomless cups of coffee, a children’s menu and more, all in a very family-friendly atmosphere. There’s no better way to start the day.

10:00 am: Oregon Coast Aquarium ● No trip to Newport is complete without a visit to the sea otters, touch pool, giant Japanese spider crabs, and other denizens of the deep. The Oregon Coast Aquarium has been a premier destination for visiting families for over 25 years!

1:00 pm: Lunch, Mo’s ● It wouldn’t be a family trip to the coast without lunch at Mo’s! Have a bowl of their world-famous clam chowder, and choose a meal from the kids menu that’s served on a Frisbee that they’ll love for the rest of the trip and beyond!

3:00 pm: Explore the Historic Bayfront and stop at Wax Works, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, and Undersea Gardens ● Walk along Newport’s Historic Bayfront and watch the fishing boats cruise in and out of Yaquina Bay. Stop for a souvenir and some ice cream or saltwater taffy, and head over to Mariner Square. Kids and adults alike will love Wax Works, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, and Undersea Gardens.

5:30 pm: Dinner, Nana’s in Nye Beach ● Most restaurants in Newport are kid-friendly, and Nana’s Irish Kitchen, popular with both visitors and locals, is no exception. Come for the hearty comfort food, stay for the friendly atmosphere and beers on tap.

6:30 pm: Bonfire on the beach ● Take your s’mores ingredients and head to the beach for an evening bonfire to wrap up your busy day. Nye Beach and Agate Beach are both perfect spots.

A Vacation with Your Friends

The beach is an ideal place to reconnect with your friends, or celebrate the end of the semester with your college buddies.

9:30 am: Breakfast, Ultralife Café  ● Grab a hearty and healthy breakfast and an espresso drink from this locally owned drive-thru café. Their menu is designed to provide coffee and a bite to eat for you to take to the beach, the park or even enjoy in the car or on their patio!

10:00: Rent surfing gear and catch some waves, Ossie’s Surf Shop & Agate Beach ● You can also take lessons and buy equipment through this shop, right across the road from one of the best surfing spots in the state. Or, bike ride through South Beach State Park ● If you’ve brought your bikes, try starting at the South Beach State Park day use area and riding north along the paved trail that leaves from the parking lot, then along the jetty road to the bike paths that go under the bridge. Or you can rent fat tire bikes at Bike Newport and ride on the beach near their shop instead.

1:00 pm: Lunch, Taphouse at Nye Creek  ● The Taphouse has 28 rotating beer, wine and cider taps, with a comprehensive selection of Oregon craft beer. They also have a large and diverse menu, featuring variety of appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, seafood, and pizza that is sure to fuel you up for the afternoon.

2:00 pm: Walk through Nye Beach or visit the Historic Bayfront ● Stroll through the shops and galleries in Nye Beach, or check out the many interesting places on the Bayfront and watch the boats come and go.

3:00 pm: Tour at Rogue Brewery, followed by happy hour ● The Rogue Brewery in South Beach offers tours of its brewing facility multiple times a day. Be sure to stay afterward to try the beers! Or go wine tasting at Noble Estate Newport ● Noble Estate Newport features a variety of regional wines to taste and purchase just steps away from the Yaquina Bay!

6:00 pm: Dinner: Saffron Salmon ● Enjoy fresh, local seafood with an amazing view of the Yaquina Bay. Saffron Salmon uses only the freshest wild, west coast salmon, and their Dungeness crab comes right off the docks of the Bayfront. Saffron Salmon also has a wide variety of craft beer and Northwest wines to compliment your meal.

7:00 pm: Check out the local nightlife, or gather your friends for a bonfire on the beach ●  Nye Beach and Agate Beach are both perfect spots for your bonfire if you want to head down to the beach with your friends.The Historic Bayfront, Nye Beach, Deco District, and South Beach neighborhoods have some great places to end the day with a few drinks, pool or darts, music, karaoke, or a great view and quiet setting to review your day and plan tomorrow’s adventures. 7:30 am: Run on the beach together ● Take an early morning run on the beach. Any beach will do, but Nye and Agate are popular choices.

9:00 am: Breakfast, La Maison ● If you’re more in the mood for a bowl of coffee than a cup, La Maison is your place. It also offers some of the best food around, including flaky pastries and mouth-watering cakes.

12:00 pm: Lunch at Ove ● This recent addition to the Nye Beach is just what the neighborhood needed! Ove Northwest serves up amazing and affordable lunch and dinner offerings in a simple, yet elegant atmosphere with great views of the Pacific Ocean.

1:30 pm: Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area ● You could spend a whole day here, tidepooling, hiking, touring the historic lighthouse, and bird-watching. Look for whales offshore!

4:00 pm: Nye Beach Wine Cellar ● Nye Beach Wine Cellar has an amazing selection of regional, national and international wines at great prices. The little shop is centrally located in Nye Beach, so that you may stop in while you are strolling through the neighborhood or on the way to the beach.

5:30 Dinner: Sorella ● Sorella in Nye Beach specializes in amazing Italian food and has some of the best cocktails around. Share plates of pasta, salad and antipasti, or order one of their signature pizzas, just make sure you save room for their homemade dessert.

7:00 romantic stroll on the beach ● Hold hands and walk along the beach to the soothing sounds of the rolling surf. Watch the sunset together, and share a bottle of wine. Light a bonfire, and enjoy each other’s company long after the sun sets.
